Joey, Senior Dental Hygienist

Senior Hygienist

Hello, my name is Joey. I am a native Washingtonian and am proud to raise my family in this community. My husband and I have two daughters: Lindsey and Kelly. I’ve always wanted to work with children in some capacity; having been petrified to visit the dentist as a child I am determined to make personal hygiene a positive aspect for other kids.

Over the last thirty years I have worked with countless patients and their families to promote dental hygiene. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is seeing our patients grow from toddlers to adolescents. It is very gratifying to watch them start their own families and guide their children down the road of good oral hygiene.

Lastly, a sense of community is very important to me. I enjoy seeing patients and their families at the grocery store, in the library, at church or just around the neighborhood Starbucks.

Serena

Serena

Dental Hygienist

Hello, my name is Serena! I was born in Annapolis, MD and raised right here in Silver Spring, MD. I received a Bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from the University of Maryland Dental School. During that time I also shadowed an instructor for an elementary school that specialized in special needs.

My father, who is a dentist, inspired me to work in dentistry. I worked for him during summer vacation and became interested in the field. The experience that I had with the hygienist at my father’s office, who truly cared, was concerned and respected me as an individual, inspired me to go into dental hygiene. I have been working with Dr. Camps since 2005 off and on but became a part of this great big family, full time in 2013.

The best part of my day is being able to help kids enjoy their visit at the dentist. I love the challenge of changing a scared face into a happy one and being able to teach parents and children about oral health. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you and greeting you with a great big smile.

Tina

Tina

Dental Hygienist

Tina was born and raised in Silver Spring, MD. She received her dental hygiene certification at Allegany College of Maryland. Tina joined Dr. Camps’ practice in March 2014.

As a child, Serena had great experiences at the dentist, and those experiencing developed into an interest in teeth and working in the dental field. Tina Chase is our very own tooth fairy! She still has some of her baby teeth in a box, paired with a booklet and covered with dental stickers she collected after each dental appointment.

She wants to continue creating positive memories for other children, regarding their oral hygiene.

“The most rewarding instance of my day is seeing a child terrified at the beginning of an appointment and the transformation to smiling and relaxed by the end. The best part of my day is connecting with parents and children. “

Tina is married, and has one daughter. In her free time, she enjoys going to the gym, reading and working on creative art projects.

Missy

Missy

Dental Hygienist

Our dental hygienist, Missy, was born in Venezuela and raised in Rockville, MD. She received her dental hygiene license at Howard University.

Her father was a dentist which set her on a track to follow in his footsteps. She loved seeing how happy people were after he helped to make adjustments to their smile. One of the many things she appreciates about dentistry is the love for of a challenge.

“I love giving your child a wonderful and happy experience at the dentist. It makes me feel proud whenever I am able to turn tears into a smile. I cannot wait to see you and teach all about those yucky sugar bugs.”

In her adolescence, she studied ballet and flamenco dancing for 12 years.

SarahSarah

Dental Hygienist

Hello, my name is Sarah! I was born and raised in Fairfax Station, VA. I received a Bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene at BCCC Associates as well as a bachelor’s in psychiatry from JMU.

I was inspired to work in dentistry after following in my mother’s footsteps for she was a dental hygienist and my father was a periodontist. I have been a part of Dr. Camps Pediatric Dental Center since November of 2017.

The best part of my day is making patients that come in nervous or anxious and being able to make them smile, excited to come to the dentist and leave as happy smiling patients. I also enjoy educating parents and children about oral health and them being able to see the results.

In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer and basketball. I also enjoy reading and taking walks with my four boys.

Jhynell

Jhynell

Dental Hygienist

Jhynell was born in New York and raised in Hempstead, Long Island. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene at the University of Bridgeport, Fones School of Dental Hygiene in Connecticut. While attending high school, she participated in Upward Bound, which offered weekend and summer academic enrichment classes with incentives and the opportunity to earn college credits. Dental hygiene was her first choice because of the opportunity to advocate for patient’s oral and overall health, autonomy, and flexible work/family life schedule.

She began working at Dr. Camps Pediatric Dental Center in 2000. As a prevention specialist in oral healthcare, she continues to influence patients and parents by educating them to make health-conscious decisions. Jhynell gives back to the community by volunteering at missions and public fairs to deliver dental hygiene services, increase prevention awareness, and improve access to care. She will earn a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in March 2022.

Jhynell is a single mom to two kids with four paws. A 16-year-old Yorkie named Champion, and Sky Blue, an eight-year-old American Shar-pei. In addition to the dogs, she also has an aquarium and lots of tropical and exotic plants. She enjoys listening to music, playing chess, backgammon, and billiards. In addition, she enjoys practicing yoga, walking, reading, theater, and travel in her time away from work, but not necessarily simultaneously.

Jhynell said “I enjoy the children and welcoming families into the clinic area for hygiene therapy and preventive care. I also enjoy a team of coworkers who use their strengths, training, and potential to maximize the best experience for the children and families.”
